Vitamin B12 and Folate Deficiency Anemia

Vitamin B12 or folate deficiency anemia (vitamin B9) is a condition of the body that lacks red blood cells due to inadequate levels of vitamins B12 and B9. Both vitamins are needed to produce red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body. In conditions of deficiency anemia, vitamin B12, and folate, the bone marrow produces only a small number of red blood cells. Without the supply of oxygen-laden red blood cells, the function of some members of the body cannot work properly.

Vitamin B12 deficiency anemia and folate are classified as megaloblastic anemia, where red blood cells do not grow normally in very large sizes. Due to deficiency of vitamin B12 and folate, sufferers can experience various medical disorders.

Most cases of this disease can be treated by taking B12 supplements to replace lost vitamins. In addition, healing efforts also need to be supported through eating patterns by consuming lots of foods loaded with vitamin B12 and folic acid.
