How to handle SAHA Syndrome in Women

SAHA syndrome can make women experience skin and hair problems, such as acne, scaly skin, a lot of hair growing on the face and body, to hair loss or baldness. If left untreated, this condition can get worse and cause various complications.

SAHA syndrome is a group of diseases of the skin and hair experienced by women due to hormonal disorders. SAHA syndrome consists of four types of diseases, namely seborrhoea, acne, hirsutism, and alopecia.

The emergence of this condition is caused by androgen hormone levels that are too high in women. Normally, the hormone androgen or testosterone is indeed present in a woman's body, but the amount is very small compared to men.

In addition to skin and hair problems in the form of SAHA syndrome, excess androgen hormones in women can also cause several other disorders, such as polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS, diabetes, obesity, and infertility.

Some Symptoms of SAHA Syndrome
The following are some types of disorders of the skin caused by SAHA syndrome:

Seborrhoea (seborrhea)
Seborrhoea or seborrheic dermatitis is a disorder of the skin that causes scaly skin, red patches, and itching. This skin disorder usually attacks areas of oily skin, such as the scalp, nose, eyebrows, ears, eyelids, and chest. This skin disease can cause a lot of dandruff to appear on the scalp and face.

Acne
SAHA syndrome can also cause women to experience severe acne. Acne can arise due to clogging of skin pores by excessive oil (sebum) and dead skin cells. Acne commonly appears on the face, shoulders, chest, and back.

Hirsutism
Hirsutism is a condition when a woman's body is covered with thick hair. The hair can grow on the face, chin, chest, stomach, thighs, and back. This condition can be caused by hormonal abnormalities, it can also be due to genetic factors.

Alopecia
Women with SAHA syndrome can experience thick hair growth in certain body parts, but the hair on their heads can fall out in large amounts, even to the point of baldness. This condition of hair loss or baldness is called alopecia.

Causes of SAHA Syndrome
The androgen hormone or testosterone is the main sex hormone in men. However, this hormone also exists in a woman's body, but the amount is small. In women, androgen hormones are produced in the ovaries or ovaries. This hormone plays an important role in maintaining bone strength and regulating the function of the female reproductive organs.

Under certain conditions, androgen hormones in a woman's body can be produced excessively. This condition called hyperandrogenism is what causes SAHA syndrome in women. The excess of androgen hormone in women can be caused by several things, including genetic or hereditary factors, PCOS, tumors of the ovaries or adrenal glands, and side effects of certain drugs.

How to Overcome SAHA Syndrome
If you experience symptoms of SAHA syndrome, you should consult with a doctor to undergo an examination. If it is true that you have SAHA syndrome, your doctor will provide treatment to treat the disorder. To normalize the levels of androgen hormones in your body, your doctor may prescribe medicines in the form of antiandrogen drugs, such as Siproteron acetate, Spironolactone, and Flutamide.

Your doctor may also recommend that you use combination hormonal therapies such as combination contraceptive pills that contain antiandrogens. However, keep in mind that there are various kinds of combined contraceptive pills with different content. Generally, synthetic progestins contained in combined contraceptive pills are Levonorgestrel, Norgestimate, Desogestrel, Drospirenone, and Siproteron acetate (CPA).

Combination contraceptive pills that can treat hyperandrogenic acne are those that contain a combination of Etinilestradiol and Siproteron acetate (CPA). Antiandrogen drugs and combined contraceptive pills can reduce the number of excessive androgen hormones in the body so that the symptoms of SAHA syndrome will also be overcome.

In addition to antiandrogen drugs and combined contraceptive pills, doctors will also provide other treatments according to the symptoms that arise, namely:
  • Acne medications, such as creams, gels, or ointments that contain retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid, to treat acne
  • Corticosteroid ointments or creams, antifungals, or shampoos containing selenium sulfide to treat seborrhea symptoms
  • Medications, laser therapy, or waxing to treat hirsutism
  • Minoxidil, laser therapy, or hair transplantation to treat alopecia
Impact of SAHA Syndrome for Health
SAHA syndrome often makes sufferers feel less confident due to interference with the skin or hair. However, not only that. If not handled properly, SAHA syndrome can also cause a number of health problems, namely:
  • Fertility disorders or infertility
  • Irregular menstruation
  • Decreased libido or sexual desire
  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Cardiovascular diseases, such as heart disease and stroke
  • Mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety disorders
  • Sleep disorders, such as insomnia
If you experience symptoms of SAHA syndrome, consult a doctor immediately. This is important so that the disease can be treated appropriately. That way, the condition does not become more severe and the impact or complications can also be prevented.
