There are several natural toothache medicines that you can use to reduce pain before you consult a dentist. Among others are:

1. Saltwater

Gargling with salt water can you make the first choice as a toothache medicine. Saltwater is a natural disinfectant that can help reduce inflammation and heal wounds in the mouth. This method is also effective for cleaning the remnants of food stuck in between the teeth.

You can use salt water to rinse by mixing ½ teaspoon of salt into a glass of warm water.

2. Cold compresses

You can also use cold compresses to reduce pain due to toothache. Cold compresses will make blood vessels in the affected area shrink, so that swelling and inflammation can be reduced. That way, the pain will also be reduced

To apply this method, you can simply wrap a few ice cubes in a clean towel, then put on the side of the cheek of the tooth that hurts for about 20 minutes. Repeat this step every few hours.

3. Garlic

Fresh garlic has often been used as a toothache medicine. Its efficacy in relieving pain in teeth is obtained from the content of allicin compounds which are antibacterial and antimicrobial. This content can kill bacteria or microorganisms that cause toothache so that pain can be reduced.

You can use garlic for a toothache remedy by crushing it until it is smooth, then sticking it to a sore tooth. In addition, you can also chew 1 clove under fresh white. If it's not strong with flavor and smell, just put fresh chunks of garlic on the sore tooth.

4. Clove oil

Clove oil can also be a choice for treating toothaches. The content of eugenol in clove oil is effective for treating inflammation and relieving pain due to toothache. In addition, this substance is also a natural antiseptic so it can kill bacteria that cause toothache.

To use clove oil as a toothache medicine, you can drop it on a cotton swab, then stick it to a tooth that hurts.

Medical Tooth Pain Medication

In addition to natural toothache medicines, there are also medical toothache medications that you can buy at pharmacies without a doctor's prescription to treat toothaches. The following are some of them:

1. Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used for toothache medicine. Ibuprofen works by blocking the body from producing compounds that cause inflammation, so that swelling, pain, or fever due to toothache can be reduced.

The usual dose of ibuprofen for adults is 1-2 tablets 200 mg every 4-6 hours. Before taking ibuprofen, make sure you have eaten it first.

2. Naproxen

Naproxen is also a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is commonly used to treat toothache. Like ibuprofen, naproxen works by reducing the production of inflammatory compounds. That way, pain due to toothache can be reduced.

Because the painkilling effect of naproxen is more durable than ibuprofen, you don't need to take naproxen as often as ibuprofen. The usual dose of naproxen for adults is 1-2 tablets 220 mg every 8-12 hours. Remember, don't forget to eat first before taking this toothache medicine.

3. Paracetamol

Paracetamol or acetaminophen is also a type of drug that is widely used to relieve toothache, especially if you have allergies to the 2 drugs above.

The usual dose of paracetamol for adults is 1-2 tablets 500 mg every 4-6 hours. You can take paracetamol before or after meals.

You can use a variety of dental pain medications, both natural and medical, to relieve pain before getting treatment from a dentist. However, if you use medical toothache medication, obey the dosage and usage rules stated on the packaging or according to doctor's instructions.

The toothache medicine above cannot overcome the problem with your teeth. So, even though the toothache that you feel has subsided, still do a check with the dentist to get the right care and treatment.
