March 7 Incident: Garuda Plane Burns at Yogyakarta Airport

Right on March 7, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell was granted a patent for his invention called the telephone.

Bell was known as the inventor of the telephone in 1876 in the United States. But according to the US Congress in June 2002 it was determined that Antonio Meucci invented the telephone.

1967 - MPRS Revokes Sukarno's Mandate
On March 7, 1967, the Provisional People's Consultative Assembly revoked the mandate of the first president of the Republic of Indonesia, Sukarno. MPRS is the forerunner to the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) which was once the country's highest institution.

MPRS was formed based on the Presidential Decree of July 5, 1959, issued by Sukarno.

2007 - The Fall of Garuda Indonesia Aircraft
On March 7, 2007, at around 07.05 WIB, Garuda Indonesia aircraft with flight number GA-200 experienced a crash and burning incident when it landed at Adisucipto Airport, Yogyakarta. At least 22 people died in the incident.
Several figures were on the flight, namely former Muhammadiyah PP chairman Din Syamsuddin, criminologist Adrianus Meliala, and former UGM Yogyakarta chancellor Professor Dr. Kusnadi Hardjosumantri (died).

Witnesses said the accident was triggered by the collapse of the front landing gear when it landed to cause a fire. The fuselage split open from the cabin to the tail, while one of the wings broke and split.

The aircraft was made on October 19, 1992, and had 34,112 flight hours as of October 31, 2006. Before Garuda was used on October 7, 2002, the aircraft had been used by a number of airlines.
