Calculating Women's Fertility after Menstruation

Estimating and calculating a woman's fertile period after menstruation is one of the main ways to have offspring. That is why to plan for pregnancy, you need to have a record of menstrual periods.
What is meant by the menstrual cycle or menstruation? The menstrual cycle is the range of days from the first day of menstruation until the first day of the next menstruation. A normal menstrual cycle is every 21-35 days. Day 1 (one) of the menstrual cycle is the first day of menstruation.

Understanding Women's Fertility
When does menstruation begin? Menstruation begins on the first day when the uterine lining decays and comes out with blood from the vagina. During menstruation, the egg will develop in the ovary. When the egg has matured, the ovary will release the egg, this event is called ovulation.

When does ovulation occur? Generally, ovulation occurs around 12-14 days before the first day of the next menstruation. Actually, the day when ovulation occurs depends on your menstrual cycle. If your cycle is short, for example only 22 days, then ovulation can occur only a few days after your period ends. So, the time of ovulation can be different for each woman. For this reason, it is important that you know your menstrual cycle in order to estimate the time of ovulation.

So, when is a woman's fertile period? Your fertile period is around the time of ovulation, about five days before ovulation occurs. Generally, a woman's fertile period is 12-16 days before the next menstrual period. In other words, the average woman experiences a fertile period between the 10th day to the 17th day after the first day of the last menstruation. This applies to women who have regular menstrual cycles for 28 days. However, if your cycle is different, you can learn and calculate when your fertile period.

The challenge is that the length of a woman's period may change from time to time, usually lasting 2-7 days. This condition makes ovulation can differ a week faster or slower than the previous period.

In addition to the process of ovulation, pregnancy is also largely determined by the process of sperm reaching the egg. In order to get pregnant, these mature eggs must be fertilized within 12 to 24 hours.

If you experience irregular and uncertain periods every month, it is likely to be difficult to calculate the fertile period. If you and your partner have been married for a long time but have not yet been blessed with children, especially if you have tried a pregnancy program but have not been successful, try to use the Alodokter application.

Calculate Your Own Fertility
The egg must be fertilized within 12-24 hours after ovulation. For this reason, it is important to detect in the days whether women are in the most fertile conditions. Generally, this fertility period is calculated based on menstrual cycle records and analysis for at least the last 8 months.

Estimated fertility can be calculated by the following formula;
  • Know your shortest cycle. For example 27 days. Subtract this number by 18. The result: 9. This number is the first day when you are in the most fertile position.
  • Know your longest cycle. For example 30 days. Subtract this number by 11. The result: 19. This number is the last day when you were most fertile.
Thus if your average cycle is 27-30 days, then you will be most fertile on days 9 to 19.

Indicator of Female Fertility After Menstruation
To further strengthen the prediction of the most fertile day, you can use several other indicators, such as:

1. Increased basal body temperature
Basal body temperature is body temperature when you wake up in the morning. The normal temperature is 35.5–36.6 degrees C. But if your body temperature rises a little higher than this number, this could mean you are ovulating.

2. The presence of mucus from the cervix
Mucus that comes out of the mouth of the uterus can have a runny consistency until this mucus changes indicate changes in estrogen levels in the body, which is also a sign of whether ovulation is imminent. In the fertile period, vaginal discharge before menstruation is clear, smooth, and elastic, like raw egg white. This fluid will facilitate and protect the path of sperm to the uterus to meet the egg.

3. Mild to severe pain in the abdomen or one part of the back
Some women feel this around ovulation. This pain can also be used as a sign to help detect fertility.

4. Feel more passionate
Some women feel more passionate, more excited, and easier to socialize when experiencing fertility.

By estimating and calculating the fertile period after menstruation, and understanding what happens during the menstrual cycle, you will be more helpful in planning a pregnancy and evaluating reproductive health. If you still have difficulty, you can consult an obstetrician to determine your fertile period.
